How to prevent your website getting hacked

Ok so because we like making things as simple as possible the short answer is no site can be 100% hack-proof. Until quantum cryptography becomes mainstream or something like that enters the market, every site is a target for hackers. You just have to look at some of the high profile hacks in recent cases and you’ll see that your website is, in the grand scheme of things, a small fish in a big pond.

So what can you do?

Again, the short answer here is make it harder for the hackers and easier for yourself. There are some really obvious things which you can do such as don’t use easy passwords, or make sure you take regular backups of your website.

You could install the right website security software, introduce captchas on your login forms and SSL encryption. Although these things won’t make your site hack-proof they will make improve your website security.

Uh oh. What if I do get hacked?!

Again, try not to worry. At StudioRav we’ve worked on a number of hacked websites which have needed fixing. It’s not a fun process but it’s got to be done and sometimes we can save your website, sometimes it’s a bit more complicated. But essentially we can always get something back up there, which is at least better than porn and malware. Isn’t it.
